Song of the Week: The Golden Filter – Thunderbird (3rd Oct ’10)

Hello.

It’s amazing how you can accidentally stumble upon music diamonds while interacting around the web. One of these songs that immediately got me is this week’s song! Enjoy!

So, The Golden Filter, a electronic duo from the US, especially from NY (f*cking great bands there!). They made their debut with the single “Solid Gold” in February 2009, getting featured by the prestigious blog Pitchfork, monetizing this way their good popularity they gained by touring with bands like The Presets and playing in many other festivals in the US & the UK. Their second single couldn’t be overlooked, of course, getting featured in Pitchfork for the second time. Great remixes of “We Are the People” (Empire of the Sun), “New in Town” (Little Boots), “Madder Red” (Yeasayer), “Lay It Down” (Peter Bjorn and John) and “Far Away” (Cut Copy) increased their success  and recognition around the world. They deserve it, I think.

Lyrics

======================================

In the whitest white house, in the house made of the dawn
In the reddest red house, the house of evening light
In the blackest black house, you purify the day,
you’re soaring through the night,
you’re soaring through the night

Storms forming as the great bird flies
Stirring her winds of the world
Watch lightning flashing from her eyes
Your fearsome form dominates the skies

{Chorus}
Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird

Residing on the mountaintop
Wings soaring through the night
Born of the condor I control the rain
Faithful servant to the sky

Purify the day, soaring through the night
Purify the day, soaring through the night
In the house made of the dawn, in the house of evening light
In the house made of the dawn, the house of evening light
You purify the day, you’re soaring through the night

{Chorus}
Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird

In forests and fields, in rivers and from ponds, all that have webs, cloven footed ones.
To the Grand Ark, together friendly came, whose several species were to everlong to name.

Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird

What Thunderbird makes me feel? Makes me get lost in the warmth of Penelope Trappes’ vocals, revives the disco feelings and funky rhythms and makes me dance along with the sounds of a huge variety of percussion used! Great, right? Could clearly see some inspiration drained from The Gossip & Saint Etienne.
