Song of the Week: Arid – Broken Dancer (3rd Sep ’10)

Hi!

So here we go with the 3rd “Song of the Week” and this week we have an entry that I really love. A sound that steals the tunefulness of Muse, the electronic harmony of Depeche Mode, in a crazy marriage of dark, melancholic rock and mystery. They are from Belgium, having established their names in a drive of success year after year.

Can’t say more for a song that’s been adored from the first moment by all kind of music lovers! The band at its best, ARID show us a sign of how modern electronic rock should be made. We love them, maybe because:

  • They are dark… On their own, popish way.

  • After making many people hate them, due to their success – or the “crying”, Coldplay-like singing style of Jasper – they still remain on the leading position of the bands in Belgium (I’d place them in the same level as K’s Choice).

Lyrics

======================================

Broken
By the hour
Hope you’re with me
On this one
I’m dancing

First time that i saw you
I remember
Was in a low lit room

You shift, you slide, you run, you hide
You can’t escape your faith tonight
It’s happening, it’s happening, what you want
And you suffer from it

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII’m, I’m a broken dancer
On my feet tonight
OOOOOOOOOOh
Tell me
??? no one, why are you, as cold as night
Tell me
Are you lonely
Do you miss me
Like you know you should?

You shift, you slide, you run, you hide
You can’t escape your faith tonight
It’s happening, it’s happening, what you want
And you suffer from it

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII’m, I’m a broken dancer
On my feet tonight
OOOOOOOOOOOh
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII’m a broken dancer
On my feet tonight
OOOOOOOOOOh

We
are so easely
devided by what
we want
OOOH
We
are so easely
devided by what
we want

Ooooh Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii’m a broken dancer
On my feet tonight
Ooooh Iiiiiiiiiiiiiii’m a broken dancer
On my feet tonight

Broken
By the hour
I hope you’re with me…

Their first album (Little Things Of Venom)was released in 1998, and their road to stardom flourished after touring with Suede and opening for big names such as Counting Crows and the belgian band K’s Choice .

Just for the history, they got label’s Double T attention when they were finalists of Humo’s Rock Rally competition, back in 1996. This way of draining attention could be a sample for young, upcoming artists with full potential of success. A perfectly synchronized example of this story is our band’s recent success, who were the winning entry for Belgium in EuroDemo Santander2016 competition.
